Zhangzhou School
Situated in a quiet and green village in Fujian province, the Zhangzhou Center has a beautiful new facility and a big vision to serve children in need from all of the surrounding smaller cities. Sunshine Academy is grateful to partner with this Center to implement their first formal education program. Our school in Zhangzhou is being developed and led by Sunshine’s Director of Implementation Effie Ren and Director of Special Education Rachel Gilmour. Effie’s years of experience developing schools at Sunshine Academy plus Rachel’s expertise in Special Education results in a dynamic team creating a systematic and effective education program.
With the strong support from Zhangzhou Center Director Xie, our team is training a group of 8 Center teachers who are excited to be a part of the Center’s first formal education program for the 27 children enrolled in our school. Teacher Hu says, “Working with our children feels like we are digging treasures. There are so many treasures inside of the children.”
Sunshine’s focus in Zhangzhou is to fully integrate Special Education methods into the Sunshine basic philosophies which are the bedrock of our education program. Our goal is to meet the wide variety of needs presented by our students to enable them to develop greater independence and reach their full potential. As the Zhangzhou Center becomes a home for more and more children in need, Sunshine Academy will expand and our teachers will eagerly seek for more hidden treasure within the hearts, minds and lives of our students.
