Special Education Training for Social Welfare Centers

2019 Sunshine Academy Special Education Training Fall Semester was successfully held in Luohe Social Welfare Institution from September 2 to September 4. A total of 76 leaders and special teachers from 25 Welfare Institutions across the country participated in the training.

The training began with Heidi Olson's basic Sunshine Academy philosophy, which lays the foundation for special education based on love.

Teachers were fancinated by "Five Love Languages".

Sunshine Academy Special Education Specialist Rachel Gilmour led the training focusing on Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) including principles such as how to set functional goals for students and how to help students overcome barriers to improvement.

Teacher Wan, from the Nanchang Social Welfare Center, said, "Setting functional goals allows special needs children to participate more independently, and teachers benefit from timely application of reinforcement teaching skills." Through practical exercises and video case analysis’s of Sunshine Academy students, the training was practical and relevant.

The training was organized by Lauren Luo, Director of Development of Sunshine Academy. Special thanks to Rachel Gilmour for her professional special education training and Ms. Zhou, the Executive Secretary from China Association of Social Welfare and Senior Service of Chilren Welfare Protection Branch. We sincerely thank Zhang Li, Dean of the Luohe Social Welfare Center, and the team for providing training space and food. Your hard work has benefited the children of 25 welfare centers across the country.
