2019Bring Me Sunshine Summer Camp

This is the third time we have Bring Me Sunshine Summer Camp for Sunshine Academy students at Zhengzhou Children’s Welfare Institute and the second time for Luohe Children’s Welfare Institute.

Ever since June when the weather was getting hot, some children came to me and asked “ Miss Effie, When will our summer camp start ? Will that sister ( camp counselor) with red hair come again ? Will Yang Liu Yi jiejie ( sister) come again ?”

First day of camp brought back a lot of memories. Children saw their favorite camp counselors coming back and counselors realized how big some of the children have grown the past one year.

With the experience of the last two camps, camp counselors know the childrens level better, they prepared a lot of fun activities.

Language Art: After the first try of launching his rocket, Oliver said Please let me try again. I can make my rocket get higher and further this time!

Music and Art: Look at those cool hair styles. At Sunshine Academy we love to see children being creative despite the limitation of their special needs.

Robotic/Legos: Look, my house is so tall!Elias shouted to me as I walked into their classroom during Robotic/Legos class. This is the first time our children got to play with Tumble Tree Timbers. They love it so much.

Basketball/Soccer: Helen and Grace had great ideas to help children of different levels all be involved such as setting up some boundaries as a soccer transition path to help children kick the soccer into the goal.

Cooking: This is one of children’s favorite classes at camp. Hawaii Pizza, French Fries, Humus from Morocco. Children really enjoyed cooking and eating. “Theo, please don’t put the dough in your mouth, it’s not cooked yet!” Mrs. Mao had to keep her eyes on Theo during cooking class.

One of the best times of camp is our Friday Water Carnival! This is the moment you see many crazy happy smiles and hear loud laughter and happy shouts. Water guns, water balloons, slip slides, big pool, fish.

Once again, as our Sunshine kids and Bring Me Sunshine Camp counselors create and have fun together, relationships grow that remind our kids: You are loved!
